National Night Out became National Night In, as the East Windsor Police Department canceled the popular event that was set for Aug. 6.

The event was canceled because of impending hazardous weather, according to an email from East Windsor Township officials. There is no rain date.

The event was scheduled to be held at the East Windsor Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) fields on Airport Road.

The annual event would have featured police car tours, K9 dog drug detection demonstration, fire and EMS displays, and community and business booths.

Children would have been able to play games, climb an obstacle course, and have their faces painted or receive airbrush tattoos.

Since 1984, National Night Out has been held on the first Tuesday in August. It is intended to forge a bond between local police and the residents they serve.
