Man charged with DUI in school zone

A 24-year-old Pennington man was charged with driving under the influence in a school zone and other violations after he was reportedly observed driving on the sidewalk and grass near the Ethel McKnight Elementary School at 9:10 p.m. Aug. 4, according to the East Windsor Police Department.

A police officer was sent to investigate a report that a vehicle had struck a street sign and was driving on the sidewalk and grass near the elementary school on Twin Rivers Drive South.

The officer searched the area and found the man driving on Lake Drive. He stopped the vehicle and the man allegedly showed signs of impairment.

The man was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence in a school zone, refusal to submit to a breath test, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain lane and being an unlicensed driver.

He was processed and released.
