The Pennington Police Department has a sixth officer.
Pennington Council members approved Douglas Leubner’s appointment through a resolution on Nov. 4,
“Doug Leubner was born and raised in Manville and lives with his son Tucker,” Mayor Jim Davy said. “He graduated from Manville High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2012, where he served as an intelligence officer. Then in September 2020, he was deployed to Jordan.
“Upon his return he enrolled in the Union County Police Academy. He graduated in Class 128 with a full police certification and then in June 2023 he was hired by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department as a sheriff’s officer.”
Leubner is leaving the sheriff’s department to start his career in Pennington. He has been technically sworn in on Nov. 5 and at the borough’s next council meeting there will be a swearing-in [ceremony] where Leubner will be present before the council members, mayor, and family and friends, according to Davy.
“I’m very excited about the sixth officer hire,” Council President Catherine Chandler said. “This is something that we have been working on for a long time.
“I’m very happy to welcome this fully certified officer to Pennington Borough.”
