Lawrence Township voters re-elected incumbent school board members JoAnn Groeger and Kevin VanHise, along with newcomer Olga Carillo Martinez, to the Lawrence Township Public Schools Board of Education in the Nov. 5 general election.
Groeger, Martinez and VanHise ran on the “Achieving Educational Success” ticket against incumbent school board member Robert Pluta and newcomer Shazia Shah, who ran on the “Parents for Education First” ticket.
According to unofficial vote tallies released by the Mercer County Clerk’s Office, Groeger was the top vote-getter with 9,883 votes. VanHise placed second with 9,328 votes, and Martinez received 9,234 votes.
Pluta, who is completing his first term, received 3,962 votes and Shah got 3,508 votes.
The term is for three years.
Groeger and VanHise have served on the school board since 2011. Martinez will serve her first term.
The vote tallies are unofficial until the Mercer County Clerk’s Office certifies them later this month. The vote tallies include early voting, mail-in ballots and Election Day voting.
