An additional session has already been set for Dec. 12 from 7-9 p.m.

The fire company will address how a fire district would impact Cranbury residents, allow for questions and resident’s feedback.

A potential move to a fire district comes as the Cranbury Volunteer Fire Company has been facing a decline in volunteers for the company. According to the fire company, a fire district will help supplement the volunteers with firefighters and emergency technicians who are per diem.

Due to the lack of financial resources and legal authority the fire company cannot fund the additional resources, fire officials said. Should the move to fire district occur the district would then be able to level a specific tax to fund the essential services of supplemental personnel and other needs.

The fire company, which provides fire and rescue services, is an all-volunteer company that was first incorporated in 1913 but had been providing firefighting services since the 1800s.
