Four incumbents and one newcomer will represent Hopewell Township and Pennington on the Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education.
With final votes having been tallied for the Nov. 5 general election and released by Mercer County Clerk’s Office on Nov. 21, the one contested race in the school board elections – a one-year term unexpired term representing Hopewell Township – has a confirmed winner with Amanda Stylianou earning 213 votes.
She ran a write-in campaign against fellow write-in candidate Theresa (Tracy) Vogler. Vogler received the second most votes in the race with 126.
“Thank you, Hopewell Township, for your trust and support! I’m honored to serve on the Board of Education and look forward to working together to support our students and schools,” Stylianou posted on Facebook.
The one-year unexpired term was available on the board after the resignation of former school board member Lydia Liu, who moved out of the community.
The official vote counts by the Mercer County Clerk’s Office on Nov. 21 included early voting, mail-in ballots, Election Day voting and provisional ballots.
Two incumbents ran in an uncontested race for two, three-year terms – Jacquie Genovesi, who is serving as school board vice president, and Dhruv Kapadia. They represent Hopewell Township on the board.
Genovesi who has earned a second three-year term on the school board received 7,204 votes and Kapadia who earn his first full-term on the school board secured 5,135 votes.
The third and final Hopewell Township school board race in the general election was for a two-year unexpired term. Incumbent John Slotman was on the ballot for this uncontested race.
He received 7,455 votes from township voters.
Slotman was appointed to the school board to represent Hopewell Township earlier this year after the unexpected resignation of former school board member Andrea Driver.
Pennington race:
Pennington voters also had an uncontested race for school board in the general election. Incumbent Alex Reznik has officially earned a second three-year term to school board. He received 1,321 votes.
