Construction on the Terhune Road improvement project, between North Harrison Street and Grover Avenue, is expected to begin in March, according to Princeton officials.
The Princeton Council awarded a contract to the lowest bid of $805,282 to Black Rock Enterprises LLC in December. It was one of seven contractors vying for the job. Bids ranged from $805,282 to $1.5 million.
The cost will be partially offset by a $636,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets to Transit program, officials said.
Work on the project will begin after the New Jersey American Water Co. replaces the water main on Terhune Road, officials said. The water main replacement project is expected to begin in February.
The Terhune Road improvement project is focused on the north side of the roadway centerline. It will complement the improvements being made by the developer of The Alice apartment development on the south side of Terhune Road.
The project calls for installing a bicycle lane in the westbound direction, and an eight-foot-wide shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists on the north side of the roadway. It will replace the existing asphalt path, which has deteriorated.
There will be street lighting upgrades. Also, a raised intersection installation will be made at Thanet Circle and Magnolia Terrace, which is a new road that will be constructed east of The Alice apartment development.
