The speed limit on Cherry Hill Road, between Route 206/State Road and a point nearly 600 feet north of Foulet Drive, has been reduced to 35 miles per hour.
The Princeton Council approved an ordinance to reduce the speed limit from 40 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour at its April 14 meeting. It will match the speed limit on the rest of Cherry Hill Road, which is 35 miles per hour to its intersection with Cherry Valley Road.
It was recommended to reduce the speed limit to 35 miles per hour because Cherry Hill Road is classified as a rural residential road. The statutory speed limit under state law for that type of road is 35 miles per hour, according to a memorandum from Assistant Municipal Engineer James Purcell.
The Cherry Hill Road bicycle and pedestrian path project will reduce the roadway width to 11 feet from 13 feet in each direction, Purcell said.
Also, the horizontal curve north of Foulet Drive does not provide enough stopping sight distance at 40 miles per hour, Purcell said. With the reduction in speed, sufficient sight distance will be provided.
