Princeton, NJ — On Saturday, November 1, 2025, audiences are invited to a rare and unforgettable evening honoring Mikhail Voskresensky, one of the world’s most celebrated pianists, at the Seminary Chapel, Princeton Theological Seminary. This special concert marks his 90th birthday and celebrates a lifetime of artistic brilliance, resilience, and inspiration. Voskresensky will perform an all-Chopin program, a fitting tribute to one of the composers closest to his heart.

A student of the legendary Lev Oborin (winner of the First International Chopin Competition, 1927), Voskresensky inherited his teacher’s refined taste and romantic sensibility. Over his long career, he has combined electrifying technique with profound musical insight, captivating audiences across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa.

Voskresensky’s career is filled with milestones. In 1957 he gave the European premiere of Shostakovich’s Second Piano Concerto at the Prague Spring Festival in the presence of the composer. He went on to win prizes at major international competitions, including the Schumann (Berlin), George Enescu (Bucharest), and Van Cliburn (Fort Worth). In recognition of his artistry, he was named People’s Artist of Russia in 1989. In 2010 he completed a remarkable project: performing and recording all 27 Mozart piano concertos live over three years, a monumental achievement demonstrating his extraordinary mastery of classical repertoire.

Even at 90, Voskresensky continues to perform at the highest level. At age 87 he left Russia in protest of the war, affirming his lifelong commitment to artistic integrity and moral courage. Today he stands as the oldest active concert pianist in the world, a symbol of resilience and devotion to music.

A revered teacher, he has led the piano faculty at the Moscow Conservatory for nearly six decades, where his students have won more than 120 international prizes. He now shares his wisdom as a visiting professor at Juilliard and continues to provide master classes all over the world, inspiring new generations of pianists across continents.

This concert promises an extraordinary celebration of virtuosity, artistry, and humanity — a chance to experience the playing of a pianist whose influence spans continents, decades, and generations.
