The Old Bridge Police Department is hosting the 2026 Youth Police Academy and is now accepting applications.
The academy is open to any students entering 6th, 7th or 8th grade in September and attends a private or public school in the township.
The purpose of the Youth Police Academy is to provide young citizens with an introduction to law enforcement. The goal is to motivate young people to be outstanding citizens and empower them to act as a positive influence in the community.
The academy provides an opportunity for officers and students to see each other as people, rather than as adversaries. It will transform the traditional role of the police officer into a mentor and friend, while encouraging young citizens to be partners in building safer schools and communities.
The Youth Police Academy will cover a multitude of topics which includes, but is not limited to Social Media, Bullying, Motor Vehicle Law, DWI Enforcement, Crime Scene and Evidentiary Processing, Active Shooter Scenarios and a K-9 demonstration.
Each day begins with light physical training and military drill. There is a fun day at I-Play America. Participants who attend will be given two Youth Police Academy shirts and one hat along with a water bottle, which will be worn as part of their uniform daily. Lunch will need to be packed Monday through Thursday. Lunch will be provided at graduation on July 24. Drop off will be at the main entrance of the Township Recreation building between 7:45 and 8 a.m.
The Academy will be held at the Old Bridge Township Police Department from Monday to Friday, July 20 to 24 from 8 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. Spots are limited to 30 applicants.
