The public is invited to offer comments as part of the Old Bridge Police Department’s program to achieve re-accreditation.
The department is scheduled for an on-site assessment by verifying that it meets recognized professional best practices. Administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with best practice standards in five basic areas:Â the administrative function, the operations function, the investigative function and the arrestee/detainee function.
The department received its first accreditation status in 2014 and most recently received its fourth accreditation status in 2023.
The accreditation process is conducted every three years. It is an extensive and exhausting process, but the end result is for the betterment of the department, the township and ultimately the community as a whole. Accreditation indicates to the community that the police department has implemented policies and procedures that are conceptually sound and operationally effective while maintaining professionalism and commitment to the public safety of our community, officials said.
Agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling (732) 588-1721 on Wednesday, May 13, between the hours of 10 and 11 a.m. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team. E-mail comments can be sent to the police department at hdoctors@oldbridge.com. Telephone comments are limited to five minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with the NJSACOP standards. Contact Lt. Herbert Doctors, who has been the department’s accreditation manager since 2018, at hdoctors@oldbridge.com for more information.
Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Old Bridge Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for re-accreditation may send them to Harry Delgado, accreditation program director, hdelgado@njsacop.org, or write to the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission at 751 Route 73 North, Suite 12, Marlton, NJ 08053.
