Time is running out for school board candidates to file a nominating petition to serve on the Princeton Public Schools Board of Education.

The deadline to file a nominating petition is July 27 at 4 p.m. It must be filed with the Mercer County Clerk’s Office in Trenton. Fax and email petitions are not accepted.

The school board election is Nov. 3. The term is for three years.

At stake are the seats held by Beth Behrend, Adam Bierman and Eleanor Hubbard.

Behrend, who is seeking a fourth term, co-chairs the Long Term Planning, Operations and Policy committees.

Bierman is seeking reelection to a second term. He serves on the Equity and Operations committees.

Hubbard, who is also seeking reelection to a second term, co-chairs the Equity and Student Achievement committees. She serves on the Personnel and Policy committees.

A nominating petition must be signed by 25 registered voters who live in Princeton. One of the signers may be the candidate.

Candidates for school board must be at least 18 years old, able to read and write, and hold U.S. citizenship.

They must have lived in the Princeton school district for at least one year, and be registered to vote in Princeton.

They may not have an interest in any contract with the school board, or hold a claim against it.

They may not serve on the Princeton Council. They may be disqualified from holding office because of conviction of certain crimes.

Nominating petitions and the school board candidate packet are available through the Mercer County Clerk’s Office, under the “Elections – Election-related Links” tab at www.mercercounty.org.
