Pretty Brook Road may be repaved, if the New Jersey Department of Transportation approves a grant application for the proposed project.
The Princeton Council approved a resolution to apply for funding through the NJDOT’s 2027 Municipal Aid Program.
The Princeton Council included $500,000 in the 2024 capital budget ordinance for improvements to Pretty Brook Road, which are estimated to be slightly more than $1 million.
If the grant is approved, Pretty Brook Road will be resurfaced between The Great Road and Province Line Road. Centerline and edge line striping, along with stormwater retrofits, are part of the project.
There are no plans to add more lighting to the rural road.
A consultant was hired in 2022 to evaluate pavement conditions throughout Princeton to guide officials in making informed decisions and to extend the life expectancy of the roads, according to a memorandum from Deputy Administrator Deanna Stockton and Assistant Municipal Engineer Jim Purcell.
At the time of the assessment, Pretty Brook Road scored at the lower end of the rating scale for Princeton’s overall roadway network, Stockton and Purcell wrote.
No improvements have been made since the 2022 report was issued, and the condition of the pavement has continued to deteriorate, they wrote.
If the grant is approved, the project’s design construction plans will be designed in-house by the Engineering Department. Construction and administration services also will be conducted in-house.
