The Rotary Club of Robbinsville Hamilton is planning its largest Flags for Heroes display yet, with 250 American flags to be displayed at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton from Oct. 24 through Nov. 14.
The “250 Flags for 250 Years” display will mark the nation’s 250th anniversary while honoring veterans, first responders, teachers, family members and others selected as heroes by local residents and businesses.
The flags will be placed on the hospital grounds along White Horse-Hamilton Square Road and Klockner Road in Hamilton. The Rotary Club is accepting flag sponsorships through Friday, Oct. 16.
“In this special year, we encourage local residents and businesses to be part of history by honoring their personal heroes in this very public way,” Rotary Club President Joseph Bellina said.
Six organizations and businesses have signed on as Gold Level sponsors: Hamilton Township, Robbinsville Township, RWJUH Hamilton, Edward R. Woods & Co., the Carl G. Archer law office and Ameripack Inc. Bellina said flag sponsorships are being reserved at a record pace.
Individuals may sponsor a 3-by-5-foot American flag for $60. The actual flag may be purchased after the display for an additional $40. Business sponsorships begin at $300.
Each donor will receive a digital certificate and a keepsake flag medallion bearing the donor’s name, a message and the hero’s name. Sponsors also will be acknowledged on a display banner at RWJUH Hamilton and on the Rotary Club’s website.
Net proceeds from the project will benefit nonprofit organizations, including the Mercer County Military Action Council, which helps junior enlisted military personnel travel home for the holidays.
This is the seventh annual Flags for Heroes display organized by the Rotary Club. A Community Field Dedication and Veterans Day ceremony will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to noon at the hospital grounds.
