East Windsor Township has recognized Hispanic Heritage Month with a proclamation celebrating the cultural diversity and contributions of Hispanic Americans to the community.
Mayor Janice S. Mironov issued the proclamation recognizing Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month and honoring local residents and organizations.
The proclamation highlights the cultural, educational and political contributions of Hispanic Americans, including their influence on the arts, cuisine, business and community celebrations.
“Cultural diversity has always been a great strength of our community and our Nation, and Hispanic Americans constitute a significant part of our community,” the proclamation states.
It also recognizes the contributions of Hispanic Americans as scholars, entrepreneurs, public servants and community leaders, noting their role in strengthening communities throughout the country.
The proclamation encourages residents to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by participating in programs, ceremonies and activities recognizing Hispanic American culture and accomplishments.
Mironov said the observance provides an opportunity for residents to learn more about their neighbors and the different cultures represented in East Windsor.
“The diversity of our community is a great source of strength making us healthier and more understanding, and presents a great opportunity to learn more about other people’s background and culture,” Mironov said. “We enjoy engaging in events and celebrations of different groups in our town and recognize the value that each person brings to our community.”
Hispanic Heritage Month is observed annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
