The Bordentown Township Committee recently highlighted a retirement, a Girl Scout Bronze Award and the hiring of a new police officer.

Dean Buhrer was recognized for his 34 years of dedicated service to the township. Beginning his career as a laborer in the department, Buhrer eventually worked his way up to director of Public Works.

“Bordentown Township thanks Dean for his dedication to the community and wishes him happiness and success in retirement,” officials said on its social media site.

The Township Committee presented Girl Scout Troop 23126 with certificates of achievement for winning the Bronze Award for Spreading Positivity at Bordentown Regional Middle School.

The Committee also welcomed new patrol officer Tamara Bivens to the force on Sept. 9. Bivens is a Bordentown Township resident and joins the department via an intragovernmental transfer from Pemberton Township.

In Bordentown City, officials announced a Scarecrow Contest as a fun way to join in on the Halloween fun. Participants from the city, Bordentown Township and Fieldsboro are welcome to register a scarecrow they build with their family, neighbors, business colleagues, sports team or friends. Visit www.bordentownhalloween.com and drop the scarecrow off at Consolidated Fire Association on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 9 a.m. Judging will take place and a really cool trophy is given out! New this year – a Kids Division for children 12 and younger can participate in the fun.
