Bordentown: Two run unopposed for committee seats

Two candidates are running unopposed for the two committee seats on the Bordentown Township Committee in the election on Tuesday, Nov. 5. They are Democratic incumbents Eric Holliday and Kelly Lozito.

There is one-year unexpired term on the Board of Commissioners in Bordentown City. No candidates filed for the position.

Eric Holliday

Name: Eric Holliday

Age: 55

How many years have you lived in Bordentown Township? 24 years

Family: I am a widow with one adult daughter and two grandchildren. 

School and degree: I graduated from Hamilton High School West in Hamilton. I attended the New Jersey Department of Corrections Academy, I received advanced training by the FBI to become a hostage negotiator. I received emergency training certification from Texas A&M University for National Incident Management System (NIMS). 

Profession: Retired Sergeant, New Jersey Department of Corrections.

Is this the first time you have run for a seat for the Township Committee? No, I served on the Township Committee from 2015 to present, including two terms as deputy mayor.

What is your involvement in the community? I’m an active member of the Bordentown Rotary Club, a member of the Elks, a lifetime member of the New Jersey Law Enforcement Supervisors Association, and have served 10 years on the Township Committee. I also volunteer with local sports leagues and participate in community events.

Why are you running for an elected seat? I’m running to continue building upon my previous work on the Township Committee. We want to keep taxes stable and ensure we are fixing up our roads. My goal is to maintain Bordentown’s strong sense of community by ensuring that we have more events where our town can really get to know each other and learn about all the wonderful businesses we have here in Bordentown Township. I want to provide great public services, infrastructure, and conserve our open spaces and ensure they are well-maintained and accessible. I believe in keeping government transparent and accountable to the residents and want them to feel part of the process and reflect them in our decisions. 

What is one area you would like to concentrate on if elected? I will prioritize keeping taxes stable while making long-term investments in public services and preserving open spaces. It’s essential that Bordentown Township remains affordable and family-friendly, with well-maintained parks and efficient services for all residents.

Kelly Lozito

Name: Kelly Lozito

Age: 45

How many years have you lived in Bordentown Township? Nine years

Family: I am married and have two children. My oldest is an 11 year old attending Bordentown Regional Middle School and my youngest is a 4 year old attending the preschool program at Peter Muschal Elementary School.

School and degree: I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The College of New Jersey and a Master of Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Profession: I am the Senior Director of Content Process for Bristol Myers Squibb pharmaceuticals.

Is this the first time you have run for a seat for the Township Committee? I was appointed to an interim position in the Township Committee in January of 2024 to complete the term of the late Mayor Stephen Benowitz after he stepped down. This is the first time I am running for a seat on the Township Committee.  

What is your involvement in the community? I am currently serving an interim term on the Bordentown Township Committee, where I have been actively involved as the liaison to the Board of Education, youth activities, sports organizations, and scouts. In my prior role as a member of the Bordentown Township Environmental Commission, I played a pivotal role in achieving the Sustainable New Jersey Silver Certification for our township. 

Why are you running for an elected seat? I’m running for the Bordentown Township Committee to protect our open spaces and keep our community vibrant for future generations. I believe in safeguarding Green Acres from development into warehouses, ensuring our town remains beautiful and livable. My focus is on enhancing support for youth activities and promoting government transparency and communication. I want to ensure that every resident feels informed and engaged in our community’s future. Together, we can foster a sustainable environment and create opportunities for our children to thrive. 

What is one area you would like to concentrate on if elected? If elected, my primary focus will be on enhancing youth support and activities. I believe that providing more opportunities for our young residents is vital for their growth and our community’s future. By supporting programs that engage and empower youth, we can foster a vibrant environment where they can thrive. Additionally, I will work to ensure that families feel informed and involved in local decisions, promoting transparency in government. Together, we can create a stronger, more connected Bordentown that truly supports our youth and makes it a great place for families for generations to come.
