Driver charged after nearly striking East Windsor patrol car

A 47-year-old East Windsor Township man who was nearly involved in a head-on crash with an East Windsor police patrol car was charged with driving under the influence and other violations, according to the East Windsor Police Department.

The police officer was traveling north on Cedarville Road when a southbound vehicle swerved into his lane at 9:22 p.m. Oct. 9. The officer turned around and conducted a traffic stop.

During the investigation, the police officer observed open alcohol containers in the vehicle, leading to charges of driving under the influence, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

He was also charged with failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, driving while suspended and being an unlicensed driver.

He was processed and released.
