The pink of an Okame Cherry Tree will add a pop of color outside the Old Bridge Public Library.

Gary Lovallo, township conservation officer and forester, welcomed township officials including Mayor Debbie Walker, Business Administrator Anahita Feltz, and members of Columbia Bank to plant the tree on April 24 as part of its Arbor Day celebration.

“It’s a very important day that we do every year in Old Bridge,” Lovallo said. “Columbia offers the tree and comes down and plants it.”

Lovallo noted trees are important and every tree that they put in the ground “serves as a legacy.”

“The cherry tree we planted, it’s an Okame Cherry Tree,” he said. “It’s going to be beautiful in the springtime and it’s going to add color especially right next to our 911 Memorial.”
