The Hightstown Police Department has canceled its annual National Night Out, set for Aug. 6, because of impending inclement weather, according to a post on its Facebook page.

“We would like to thank everyone who donated food, drinks and give-away. There is no rain date for this event and we look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s National Night Out,” the Facebook post said.

National Night Out has been held on the first Tuesday of August since 1984. The goal is to forge a bond between the local police department and the residents it serves, according to the National Association of Town Watch.
