Pennington’s newest police office took his public oath of office.
Patrolman Doug Leubner was technically already sworn-in on Nov. 5, but not in a meeting before Borough Council and the public.
Borough Attorney Walter Bliss swore Leubner in officially during the council’s meeting on Dec. 2.
“Thank you. I appreciate it,” Leubner said. “I am happy to be here.”
Bliss shared that Leubner was raised in Manville where he graduated as a salutatorian at Manville High School in 2012.
“Doug went on to complete some college at Raritan Valley Community College prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserves that same year,” Bliss said. “Doug served eight years as an intelligence analyst serving in multiple locations statewide as well as an overseas deployment to the Kingdom of Jordan in support of Operation Eager Lion.
“Upon his completion of service Doug began work at the Somerset County Sherrif’s Office where he spent two and half years as a cadet prior to being sworn in as a sheriff’s officer in late 2022. He completed the basic course for police officers as part of Class 128 at the John H Stamler Police Academy in Scotch Plains.”
Leubner worked in numerous roles at the Somerset County Sherrif’s Office including as a member of the community outreach team and he attained certification for standardized field sobriety testing in July 2024, Bliss noted.
Pennington Police Sgt. Novin Thomas congratulated and welcomed Leubner aboard.
