Pennington officials honored former Councilwoman Deborah Gnatt with a proclamation for her decade of service on council, commissions and boards and initiatives in the community.
Gnatt’s tenure was recognized at Pennington’s reorganization meeting on Jan. 6. Her final term on council ended on Dec. 31, 2024, as she decided not to run for re-election.
“I just want to say it has just been an honor and a privilege to work with each and every one of you,” Gnatt said. “Special shoutout to Betty Sterling (borough clerk). I could not have done any of it without Betty’s help. Thank you, mayor. Carry on and Happy New Year everybody.”
After reading her proclamation detailing her time and efforts on council, Mayor Jim Davy said,” Job well done Deborah.”
Her fellow council members thanked her for her service. Councilman Charles Marciante added, “We are going to miss you Deb.”
Her time on the six-member council began in 2014 when she had been appointed to the governing body to succeed former Councilwoman Dina Dunn, who had resigned.
During the 10 years from 2014 to 2024, Gnatt served on the Personnel Committee, five years as chair. Borough officials credit Gnatt with revamping Pennington’s personnel manual.
She served on the Planning Board from 2014-2021 and played a significant role with the Heritage at Pennington Development, according to the borough. Her time on boards, committees and commissions did not end there, Gnatt also served on the Open Space Committee helping Pennington with the cemetery property and arboretum.
She also was a member of the Historic Preservation Commission, Economic Development Committee, Enviornmental Commission, the library board, Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Shade Tree Commission.
Gnatt works currently as an attorney with Ward Law, LLC, in its New Jersey office and specializes in labor and employment law, according to Philadelphia based law firm’s website.
Additionally, she served as a former senior deputy attorney general for New Jersey for more than 30 years. Gnatt received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University and her law degree from Rutgers Law School.
