Montgomery Township has added land to Cherry Brook Preserve with the acquisition of 12 acres along Cherry Valley Road.

The township’s purchase of the property for open space preservation connects the 12 acres to the 400-acre Cherry Brook Preserve which is next to the property.

The newly acquired land that has the Cherry Brook stream corridor running through it sits between the Cherry Brook Preserve and the Yorkshire Woods development.

“This preservation continues the township’s efforts to preserve lands along the Princeton Ridge and to protect contiguous forest canopy and streams,” Mayor Neena Singh said. “We are glad to add to Montgomery’s open space inventory that will enhance our water quality and stormwater resiliency, and provide wildlife habitat, as well as recreational opportunities for our residents.”

Montgomery through the township’s Open Space Trust Fund purchased the land from owner Bruce Jefferson for $150,000.

The Cherry Brook Preserve not only has 400 acres but 3.5 miles of pathways. Montgomery has preserved more than 8,000 acres as open space or farmland.
