The Republican Party did not field a slate of candidates.

Newlin will begin his second term on the Princeton Council when it reorganizes in January. He will be joined on the dais by McDonald, who is making the leap from the Princeton Public Schools Board of Education to the Princeton Council. He served two terms on the school board.

According to unofficial vote tallies released by the Mercer County Clerk’s Office, McDonald was the top vote-getter with 9,024 votes. Newlin received 8,966 votes.

The vote tallies are unofficial until the Mercer County Clerk certifies them later this month. The vote tallies include early voting, mail-in ballots and Election Day voting.

Princeton Councilwoman Eve Niedergang did not seek re-election.
