A police officer arrived on the scene within one minute, but could not find the source of the sounds or any disturbance, police said.

Police were called back to the scene several hours later after a passerby found some bullet casings. Police searched the area and found several more bullet casings in the road that appear to have been discharged from a handgun.

The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information about the loud noise is asked to call Officer Christopher Vaccarino at (609) 737-3100, ext. 5480 or to email the officer at cvaccarino@hopewelltwp.org.

Persons may also use the Hopewell Township Police Department’s tipline by emailing tipline@hopewelltwp.org.
