School district officials have awarded a $1.8 million contract to resurface the track and to install new turf on the athletic field at Princeton High School.

The Princeton Public Schools Board of Education awarded the contract to Hellas Inc. at its Jan. 21 meeting. The contractor is based in Austin, Texas.

Money for the resurfacing and turf replacement projects is coming from a $12.9 million school bond referendum approved by voters in November 2023.

The bond referendum was divided into four areas of focus.

Safety and security measures accounted for $4 million in spending. Wellness and sustainability accounted for $3.5 million.

Major maintenance projects were pegged at $3 million and technology upgrades accounted for $2.3 million.

All of the schools are slated to receive security and camera upgrades, and protective window film.

Princeton Middle School and Princeton High School will receive upgraded doors and locks. Security vestibules will be added to the main entrance and to the Performing Arts Center at the high school.

The six schools are to receive technology upgrades to a 10-giga-bit network to ensure reliable internet service in the classrooms. At the Johnson Park School, cell service boosters are planned because of weak signal strength.

All of the elementary schools will receive minor playground equipment upgrades. The playground upgrades at the Riverside School and the Littlebrook School include equipment to increase their accessibility to children of differing abilities.

At the Princeton Middle School, improvements will also to be made to the playground. The swimming pool is on target to get new lighting, starting blocks and pads.

The Princeton High School cafeteria is slated to be renovated to improve the flow of students at lunchtime. A variety of seating options are included, as well as more cashier stations.

Kitchen renovations include the installation of a commercial dishwasher, which would reduce the reliance on plastic utensils. Serving and cooking equipment will be modernized, as needed.
