Terry Goldstein, who has been a fixture at the East Windsor Township Senior Center for many years, has been awarded the 2024 “Sylvia Weiss Senior Citizen Award for Outstanding Service as a Volunteer.”
Goldstein was presented with the award at a ceremony at the East Windsor Township Senior Center. He is the latest recipient in a long line of senior citizens to receive the award.
The award was named for the late Sylvia Weiss, who died in 2016. She was a former East Windsor Township Council member and was instrumental in organizing the senior citizen program in the township. She was a former chairman of the New Jersey Commission on Aging.
The award recognizes a senior citizen who has exhibited outstanding service through volunteerism to the community through the schools, religious institutions, service organizations or directly to the public.
Goldstein has been a dedicated and valued volunteer at the East Windsor Township Senior Center for many years, Mayor Janice Mironov said. He has been involved in many of the senior center’s programs and operations.
“Terry has hosted the Trivia activities, moderating – sometimes refereeing – the Current Events Club. He is a member and performer of the newly formed Senior Center Magic Club,” Mironov said.
Goldstein has helped to oversee senior center party events. He assists with early morning sign-ups for trips. He has always been available to help anyone who needs assistance, Mironov said.
Outside of the East Windsor Township Senior Center, Goldstein has been a member of the Wheaton Pointe age-restricted apartment development’s board of trustees. He is the vice president of the Twin Rivers Library and a member of the Juvenile Conference Committee, Mercer Vicinage.
Goldstein has participated in the township’s community garden and has been involved for 10 years with the City of Trenton’s “Art All Night” program.
He has volunteered with The Watershed Institute and participates in the annual stream cleanup at Etra Lake Park.
“Terry has been an incredibly dedicated volunteer who devotes extensive hours and great efforts to our senior center, as well as to many other important groups within our community,” Mironov said. “His valuable volunteer efforts truly exemplify the spirit of this award.”
