The Philadelphia Eagles are headed to Super Bowl LIX and fans are invited to the Burlington County Animal Shelter for a special pregame pup rally on the day of the big game.
The animal shelter is partnering with the Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter to host the second annual “Tail”-gate open house on Sunday, Feb. 9 from noon to 4 p.m. It’s an event that enables visitors to meet dogs and cats available for adoption or fostering. As an incentive, adoption fees have been waived in the past week up to the big game.
The event will also include music, snacks, the shelter’s version of a training camp obstacle course and other football and animal-themed games and activities. Visitors can also watch part of the Discovery Channel’s Puppy Bowl at 2 p.m.
“Super Bowl Sunday is a special occasion for families and friends to get together, and we’re looking to make it extra special by connecting people to our shelter’s champion pets,” said county Commissioner Tyler J. Burrell, liaison to the shelter.
Among pet adoption candidates is Buddy, a 4-year-old pit bull terrier who first came to the shelter in 2022. He’s described as a very outgoing dog who loves both exercise and cuddles. Last year, a pit bull terrier mix named Chief – the shelter’s longest dog resident at the point – was one of five dogs adopted during the Super Bowl open house.
