Take a ‘Journey through the Past’ in Somerset County

Take a Journey Through the Past and explore 31 historic sites in Somerset County on October 12 and 13.

The free, family-friendly weekend event, hosted by the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage, welcomes everyone to discover the fascinating history of local people and places.

The 19th annual event will also feature historical reenactors, talented artists, and lively performers that will entertain and educate those in attendance with demonstrations and interactive exhibits.

“We are grateful for each of the 31 historic sites participating in this annual event celebrating Somerset’s pride in the heritage and history of our county,” said Commissioner Melonie Marano, liaison to the Cultural and Heritage Commission. “This is a don’t miss event for all members of the family.”

All 31 historic sites will be open to the public on:

  • Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 13 from noon to 4 p.m.

Different activities and events will be available at each historic site, ensuring a fun and unique experience for history lovers and enthusiasts

A few of the featured events include:

  • Folk art demonstrations – Kennedy-Martin-Stelle Farmstead, Basking Ridge
  • Blacksmithing demonstrations – Old Millstone Forge, Millstone
  • Meet General George Washington – Washington Rock, Green Brook
  • Interactive exhibit of Revolutionary-era teas and candies – Van Veghten House, Bridgewater
  • Camp Meeting Reenactment with live music, crafts, and more – Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum, Skillman
