“This certification recognizes the township’s pro-active sustainability efforts in developing community partnerships and outreach, recycling, emergency management, open space and farmland preservation, sustainable land use practices, energy conservation, and furthermore enables East Windsor Township to be eligible for future grants and funding opportunities,” said Mayor Janice Mironov. “We are extremely proud of the substantial achievements of our municipality and this prestigious statewide recognition, and the dedicated efforts of our many volunteers.

“Green programs such as open space and farmland preservation and tree replacement efforts have always been a priority of East Windsor Township. We appreciate the opportunity to demonstrate our level of achievement with Sustainable Jersey, and we are honored to be recertified as a statewide Silver Level municipality.”

For the silver certification, the township had 33 actions in 13 categories.

The township earned 30 points for its municipal onsite solar system, according to the certification. The municipal solar project is located adjacent to the Municipal Utilities Authority’s Pollution Control Facility. It began full operations in January of 2021. The solar array is designed to generate 2,165,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

The township earned 20 points for its bicycle and/or pedestrian improvement projects. Innovation Park a newly constructed and completed project located off Princeton/Hightstown County Route 571 is one of the new pedestrian walking sites currently being offered in East Windsor. Innovation Park incorporates modern unique architectural features and extensive outdoor public green spaces, landscaping and berming with deciduous, ornamental and evergreen trees, benches and other amenities that surround the walking pathway

The township earned 20 points for its Green Business Recognition program and 20 points for its Community Forestry Management Plan and New Jersey Urban and Community Forestry program accreditation.

East Windsor Township previously earned Silver Level Sustainable Jersey Certification, which is a three-year certification, in 2015, 2018 and 2021.

Launched in 2009, Sustainable Jersey is a 100% voluntary certification program for municipalities in New Jersey that want to go green, save money and take steps to sustain their quality of life over the long term.

The members of the East Windsor Green Team are: Chairperson Ronald Balint; Mayor Janice S. Mironov; Council Member John Zoller; East Windsor Municipal Utilities Authority Executive Director Richard Brand; Joseph Y.
