‘We hope it becomes a new tradition’

Cranbury School basketball game to raise funds for American Heart Association

Sounds of sneakers, basketballs and people will fill the Cranbury School gym next week when girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball take on members of the Cranbury Police Department.

The night of fun will be held at 6 p.m., March 4 in the school’s gymnasium in Cranbury Township.

The event will raise funds for the American Heart Association (AHA).

“We are ecstatic to partner with the Cranbury police for this great cause,” said Jennifer Diszler, chief school administrator and principal. “Erika Shulman, one of our PE (physical education) teachers, brought Jump Rope for Heart to our school last year and she wanted to help it grow bigger this year.

“This game will be sure to do that…we hope it becomes a new tradition here at Cranbury School. We are big fans of the Cranbury Police department and may the better team win.”

All proceeds from the $5 admission tickets and any refreshments sold at the PTO snack stand will be donated to AHA.

“I fully support our officers’ participation in the Cranbury School’s varsity basketball game next week to benefit the American Heart Association,” Cranbury Chief of Police Giuseppe DeChiara said.

“I will consistently encourage my officers to engage in events like this, as they not only support a worthy cause, but also help strengthen the incredible bond between our police department and the community we serve.”

He added, such opportunities allow us to engage with the citizens we protect in a positive and meaningful way.

The AHA was founded in 1924 by six cardiologist with a mission to fight heart disease and stroke, according to AHA.

The nonprofit invests in research for cardiovascular cerebrovascular disease. They have 35 million volunteers and supporters dedicated to improving heart health.
