A woman was nearly scammed out of money by a caller who pretended to be from her bank in an incident that was reported Feb. 4, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.

The caller told the woman to withdraw money from her bank account and to bring it to a specific branch of the bank, police said. She followed the directions given to her by the caller, which led her to a gas station. There was no bank in sight.

The woman then received a phone call from someone who purported to be a Hopewell Township police officer from the “fraud department,” police said. The caller stated they were on their way to her location to help.

The woman became concerned and left. No money was lost in the incident.
