Pedestrian dashes into roadway, suffers fractured ankle

A 33-year-old Hopewell Township man suffered a fractured right ankle after he ran into the side of a car on Hopewell-Wertsville Road shortly before 5 p.m. June 16, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.

When police responded to the report of a pedestrian who was struck by a car, they discovered that the man was in crisis and had dashed into Hopewell-Wertsville Road. He ran into the side of a passing vehicle driven by a 63-year-old Princeton resident.

The man fell to the ground, and his right foot was run over by the vehicle, police said. He suffered a compound fracture of the right ankle. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver fully cooperated with the investigation and it does not appear that charges will be filed at this time, police said.

The crash is under investigation by Detective Christopher Collins of the Hopewell Township Police Department and detectives from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
