Yesterday, our nation was shaken by the news of an alarming event—the shooting of former President Donald Trump. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the innocent attendees who lost their lives and with those who were injured. This is a moment that calls for our unity and strength as a community.

We acknowledge the remarkable bravery and dedication of our nation’s first responders. Their swift and decisive actions were crucial in protecting lives and ensuring the safety of everyone present. We owe them a profound debt of gratitude for their courage and professionalism in such a dire situation.

We concur with President [Joe] Biden and other world leaders that violence and hatred have no place in our society. It is our responsibility to ensure that love and compassion prevail, and we are committed to upholding these values in our community.

We urge all Hillsborough residents to maintain order and uphold the values that define us. Our true character is revealed in times of crisis. Let us show the world that we are a community built on respect, understanding, and peace and that we stand together in the face of adversity.
