Firefighters from West Windsor Township and surrounding communities responded and extinguished the flames within 30 minutes, police said.

Preliminary findings showed that the fire started on the second floor. It is not considered suspicious at this time, pending further investigation, police said.

Three residents were taken to the Penn Medicine at Princeton Medical Center for precautionary reasons and later released. A firefighter from the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. was also taken to the hospital for treatment of heat exhaustion.

Princeton-Hightstown Road was closed for about three hours, between Southfield Road and Old Trenton Road, while firefighters fought the fire and an investigation into its cause was launched, police said.

In addition to the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. and the Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Co., firefighters from East Windsor, Hamilton, Lawrence, Plainsboro, Robbinsville and Monroe townships responded to the fire. The West Windsor Division of Fire and Emergency Services responded.
