Eugene Barry, 79

Eugene Barry, 79, of Princeton died on Monday, November 18, 2024 in the Hospice Center in Palm Coast, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. Gene had suffered a series of strokes and was diagnosed with brain cancer. He passed peacefully in his sleep, never having to know he had the cancer.

Born in Chicago, Illinois he grew up in Berwyn and attended high school at Saint Francis Catholic School in Wheaton. He went to college at the University of Illinois, sponsored by The Evan’s Scholar’s Foundation. He received his MBA from the University of Chicago. Gene had a career with Johnson and Johnson for over 28 years. In his early 20’s, Gene began caddying for the members of a local golf club. This is where his passion for golf was ignited. Gene was able to golf from his twenties until the day before he went into the hospital. He loved his golf life. He spent the spring and summer competing in golf tournaments in NJ at Jasna Palana and he spent the fall and winter in Palm Coast, FL also playing and competing typically six days a week.

Gene loved his family and friends. He spent years traveling around the country and the world. He had become an international traveler in the 1990s when his job took him to Hong Kong to live and work.

Gene was a champion of the under privileged in his community. This led to his ardent support of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Paul’s Church, Princeton, where the poor and underserved of the community are treated with dignity. He was a member of SVDP for over twenty years and during that time served in the capacity of Vice President and also Fundraising Chair. Gene devoted his time and his personal resources to lift up those in need.

Son of the late John and Adelaide Barry, brother to the late Michael and Richard Barry, he is survived by his wife of 55 years Vicki (Anderson) Barry, his daughters Chris Bruck and Jessica Voss, his son James Barry, his grandchildren Gabby, Allie, Jacob Bruck, Sarah, Tommy Voss, Lucas Barry and soon to be born new baby Barry. He had so much love for his niece and nephews.

He was loved and cherished by so many friends around the country and around the world.

The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 216 Nassau Street, Princeton, NJ.

Burial will follow in the Princeton Cemetery.

The visitation will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 at the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home 40 Vandeventer Avenue, Princeton.
