Lillian S. Nielsen, 90, passed away on November 6, 2024, in Deland, FL. Born on October 25, 1934, Lillian dedicated 30 years of service as a Rural Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service, a role she cherished for its connection to the community.
Lillian was known for her outgoing and magnanimous personality, which allowed her to approach anyone and never fail to entice a smile. Her loyalty and generosity had a profound impact on her friends and family, leaving a lasting legacy of cherished memories. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cranbury.
Her personal life was filled with love and adventure, especially in her travels with her devoted husband, Herbert D. Nielsen, whom she married on June 19,1954. Through 70 years of marriage Herb and Lillian enjoyed a lifetime of laughter, love, and friendship. Lillian also had a playful intrigue for collectibles, ranging from exquisite porcelain to whimsical yard statues, and she harbored a joyful passion for Christmas decorative displays.
Lillian is survived by her husband, Herbert D. Nielsen; sons, Donald and William Nielsen; daughter-in-law, Marianne Nielsen, five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her children, son David Nielsen, daughter Laura Nielsen, grandson Sherman Snook, and parents Lauretta May Schanck and William H. Schanck.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lillian’s memory can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, an organization she held in high regard for its commitment to the well-being of veterans and their families. Lillian’s life, marked by dedication, warmth, and a vibrant spirit, will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
