Hopewell — William S. Borden III (Bill), 72, passed away Thursday at the Hunterdon Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He grew up in Titusville, graduated from Hopewell Valley Central High School, Rutgers University, and earned his PhD in history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has lived in Harbourton since 1980.
Bill spent over 40 years working at Mathematica Policy Research where he was a senior data architect, a senior fellow, and served as director of several teams including the Performance Management Group. He was influential in the development of performance reporting for various government programs through the use of custom software applications and modernized data collection and validation methodologies.
He was a man of many interests and hobbies who was never satisfied until he could consider himself an expert on a subject. The eclectic book collection he leaves behind evidences his passion for photography, opera, film, Asian history and culture, gardening, Philadelphia sports, jazz, reggae, boating, and so much more. He was an avid traveler who saw the world with his wife Carla who he began dating 55 years ago.
Above all, he was a loving father, grandfather, and husband.
Son of the late Dorothy Borden and William S. Borden Jr.; he is survived by his wife Carla A. Borden; his three children William M. Borden, Andrew C. Borden, and Jessica L. Borden; his grandson James C. Borden.
A Memorial service will be held 11 am to 1 pm Friday July 26, 2024 at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington, NJ 08534.
