Voters in the Bordentown Regional School District approved approved a $86.1 million bond referendum on Nov. 3 to fund the improvement of facilities and infrastructure.

The referendum will pay for improvements at all five district schools: Peter Muschal Elementary School, MacFarland Intermediate School, Clara Barton Elementary School, Bordentown Regional Middle School and Bordentown Regional High School.

The proposed projects include replacing leaking roofs, aging heating and cooling equipment, windows, plumbing and electrical systems, along with improvements to fire alarms, emergency generators, public address systems, doors, sidewalks and parking areas.

Now that the referendum is approved, the district will receive $29.3 million in state aid, covering approximately 34% of the $86.1 million cost. The remaining cost would be financed through bonds over 20 years.

Bordentown Regional School District Superintendent Dr. James Altobello thanked the voters.

“Thank you to the members of our community who supported the Bordentown Regional School District by voting for the bond referendum,” Altobello said.

“Your approval allows us to address critical infrastructure needs in our schools with the support of state funding” he said. “We appreciate the community’s careful consideration of this proposal. The approved referendum will help us meet our goal of improving our aging infrastructure to provide safe, healthy and reliable learning environments for our students and staff, while minimizing the impact on taxpayers.”
