Hopewell Township officials broke ground on new pavilion at Woolsey Park which will provide more space for residents and visitors.

On the morning the nation celebrated its 250th birthday, the township held a groundbreaking ceremony this July 4 for a new pavilion in Woolsey Park in Hopewell Township that is designed to give visitors to the park a new space for events, gatherings, or recreation.

The pavilion will be a large, covered space with benches underneath for seating and have a walking path to the structure.

The township authorized a close to $70,000 professional services agreement with Suburban Consulting Engineers for survey, geotechnical, and engineering services regarding the Woolsey Park Pavilion in February.

Earlier this year township officials approved the use of $518,000 in capital budget funds for tree replacement at Independence Park and the construction of the new pavilion at Woolsey Park.

The new pavilion will join the already constructed and opened bandshell in Woolsey Park.

In 2024, the bandshell was opened after construction and $500,000 in state funding from the federal American Rescue Plan funds.

The bandshell has already been used for the annual Cultural Festival, events from local organizations and the Hopewell Police Department since its opening.
