Township Councilwoman Bonne Giglio was elected to fill out an unexpired term on the Lawrence Township Council in the Nov. 3 general election.
Giglio, who is a Democrat, ran unopposed for the one-year term. She received 9,386 votes. There were 79 write-in votes.
Giglio was appointed to the Township Council in February, following the resignation of former Township Councilwoman Olympia I’Liou Perry in January. Perry’s term would have ended in December 2027.
Giglio has lived in Lawrence Township since 2010 and has been active in local and country organizations for many years. She is the executive director of the Lawrence Township Education Foundation, which approves grant applications made by school district teachers and administrators. She also served on the Lawrence Township Recreation Advisory Committee.
When she was appointed to the Township Council earlier this year, Giglio said she wanted to bring her political experience, knowledge of Lawrence Township and community involvement to the governing body.
Giglio cited expanded recreational opportunities, greater interaction between volunteer committees and the Township Council and improved walkability and safe routes to school among her priorities.
The vote tally is unofficial until the Mercer County Clerk certifies the results later this month. The vote tally includes early voting, Election Day voting and vote-by-mail ballots.
Vote-by-mail ballots that were received after 8 p.m. Nov. 3 and provisional ballots had not been tallied as of Nov. 3.
