As the final votes have been tallied, Democratic incumbents Neena Singh and Dennis Ahn were officially confirmed as the winners of two, three-year terms on the Montgomery Township Committee.
Singh, who currently serves as mayor, earned 7,662 votes, and Ahn received 7,383 votes from township voters defeating Republican candidates Marion Sanders, who secured 4,357 votes, and Pamela Booth, who received 4,283 votes in the Nov. 5 general election, according to the Somerset County Clerk’s Office.
Singh’s re-election win gives her a second three-year term on the Township Committe. She was elected mayor by her fellow Township Committee members in January 2024.
Singh is the first Sikh and Indian American woman in the state to hold the position of mayor. She established the township’s Mayor’s Wellness Campaign, and her service on the governing body includes the township’s Planning Board, Recreation Committee, and Youth Leadership Council.
Ahn has been on the Township Committee since 2022. He serves on the Agricultural Advisory Committee, township’s Board of Health, and Economic Development Commission.
After the election they posted a joint statement. “….We are profoundly honored and grateful for the trust you have placed in us through your votes and support. Thank you to each and every one of you who participated in this election, engaged in dialogue, and shared your aspirations for the future of Montgomery.
“We are inspired by your confidence and promise to remain dedicated to upholding the values that bind us as a community. We will continue to work diligently to serve Montgomery with transparency, integrity and purpose.”
The official vote counts by the Somerset County Clerk’s Office on Nov. 19 included early voting, mail-in ballots, Election Day voting and provisional ballots.
With Singh and Ahn winning re-election to the Township Committee, Democrats maintain all five seats on the governing body.
