A Gordon Way resident was nearly tricked into sending $400,000 from his investment account to scammers who posed as bank employees, FBI agents and a federal prosecutor, according to the Princeton Police Department.

The suspects claimed that victim and his wife were under investigation for money laundering. They provided false arrest warrants, and were told to open multiple bank accounts.

The victim was told to open multiple bank accounts and to transfer $400,000 from an investment account into the newly opened accounts, police said. He deposited $1,000 into one of the new accounts before it occurred to him that it was a scam.

The incident of identity theft and theft by deception was reported to police on Oct. 7. The incident is under investigation.
