Bank of America office building on American Boulevard damaged by fire

A fire that began in the kitchen of the office building at 1550 American Boulevard, off Scotch Road, caused extensive smoke and water damage to the building, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.

The fire was reported at 7:20 a.m. June 29, police said. The building is occupied by the Bank of America.

Police and firefighters observed smoke billowing out of the building when they arrived. It was occupied, but all staff had safely evacuated. There were no injuries, police said.

The fire was extinguished by the Pennington Fire Company. Additional firefighters responded from Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, the Hopewell Fire Department, the Union Fire Company, the Lawrence Township Fire Department, the West Trenton Volunteer Fire Department and the Prospect Heights Volunteer Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Mercer County Fire Marshal and Hopewell Valley Emergency Services.
