“Canvases + Confections” was not just an event that showcased established artists but also those emerging.
The event served as a fundraiser for the 17th annual Hopewell Tour Des Arts and student art scholarships on May 31 inside the Hopewell Theater in Hopewell Borough.
People who attended were able to purchase small works from Tour Des Arts artists, see student artwork and meet Hopewell Valley Central High School (HVCHS) and Cambridge School student artists who were part of the Hopewell Valley (HV) Arts Council’s Emerging Artists Art Exhibit.
The artwork was exhibited for two days on May 31 and June 1. The exhibit featured paintings, drawings and ceramics from the student artists.
The fundraising event on May 31 was part of a new partnership between Hopewell Tour Des Arts and the HV Arts Council, which they announced in April.
The money raised supports the Hopewell Tour Des Arts, which is a free tour event showcasing artwork from Hopewell Valley area artists in different mediums from different art studios and spaces. The tour is scheduled for late September.
Sean Mannix, Beth Judge and Ruth Morpeth established the idea for Hopewell Tour Des Arts 18 years ago.
A partnership with the HV Arts Council provides additional support for the event and for tax-deductible donations, as well as establishing a mentorship program for high school artists, according to Mannix.
“I look forward with anticipation to the possibilities that lie ahead in our collective journey with the HV Arts Council,” Mannix said in April. “Together, we aim to nurture and elevate the event, mentor emerging artists, ensuring its longevity for many years to come.”
The Tour operates under the Arts Council’s oversight.
“We are excited to have Tour Des Arts added to our repertoire of premier events as we strive to not only elevate Hopewell to a regional art hub, but also underscore the importance of art as a cornerstone for thriving communities,” said Carol Lipson, executive director for HV Arts Council.
