Somerset County is asking residents to provide feedback on the development of a countywide Local Safety Action Plan (LSAP).
Residents are encouraged to participate in an online public survey and web mapping activity to share their concerns and suggestions.
The LSAP will identify and prioritize transportation safety improvements to reduce fatal and serious crash-related injuries on county and municipal roadways. More than 60% of all fatal and serious injury crashes in New Jersey happen on local and county roads.
“Developing a Local Safety Action Plan is an integral step for us to take to ensure that we continue to prioritize safety on all modes of transportation,” said Deputy Director Commissioner Sara Sooy, liaison to the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority. “It will enable us to access federal funding to implement important safety measures in our communities.”
The Federal Highway Administration has identified LSAPs as a proven and effective strategy to reduce these crashes.
There will be several opportunities for residents to provide feedback to help guide the creation of this plan. The LSAP process relies on input from Somerset County residents and technical experts to create solutions that reduce and eliminate serious roadway injuries and fatalities.
This planning effort is being funded by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, the federally authorized metropolitan planning organization for 13 counties in northern and central New Jersey.
