Man charged with arson

A 20-year-old East Windsor Township man who allegedly set fires in buildings on Main Street and Route 33 has been charged with three counts of arson, according to the East Windsor Police Department.

The man was also charged with one count each of criminal mischief and burglary in the incident, which was reported at 7:32 a.m. March 31, police said.

Police officers were sent to 651 Mercer St. for a report of a building on fire. When they arrived, they found a small structure that was fully engulfed in flames. They located a second small fire in the main building.

A short time later, a police officer discovered a third fire in a shed in a wooded area between the Bicycle Rack store and The Home Depot on Route 33.

A witness reported seeing a man walking from the wooded area near The Home Depot, police said. Officers searched and located the man between The Home Depot and Walmart and arrested him.

He was processed and taken to the Mercer County Correction Center.

Firefighters from East Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 responded to the fire. They were assisted by firefighters from Plainsboro Township, Monroe Township, Hightstown Borough, Robbinsville Township and Allentown Borough.

Capital Health EMS also responded to the scene.
