Pennington Council members have approved the employment for a sixth police officer to the Pennington Police Department.
Council members authorized Police Chief Doug Pinelli offering conditional employment to Douglas Leubner on Oct. 7. He must satisfy certain conditions of the offer before being hired officially to the police force.
“I just want to thank [Borough Administrator] GP [Caminiti] and the officers involved for moving so quickly on this candidate and making this happen,” Council President Catherine Chandler said. “This candidate is our elusive sixth officer and I am very excited to have this hire so quickly.
“I would like to commend all the officers involved in making this happen and GP for his assistance. I can’t tell [you] how much I appreciate it.”
Before the council gave its final approval for the conditional offer, Pennington’s Public Safety Committee approved the recommendation offering conditional employment to Leubner.
Leubner will need to successfully pass certain conditions such as medical, physical, psychological
and drug tests and the pre-academy physical fitness assessment.
The conditional offer for a sixth officer is very good news, Caminiti said.
“…Thank [Chief Pinelli] again along with the team for the heavy lifting in finding the certified candidates to replace the missing officer,” he said. “They really did the duty in sifting through the applicants and getting these wheels in motion. They deserve all our respect and credit and thanks.”
Leubner is a sheriff’s officer in the Somerset County Sherriff’s Office. He previously served for more than eight years as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Reserves.
