Residents will be able to discuss their ideas for the potential redevelopment of Pennington’s landfill when the Borough Redevelopment Committee meets next week.

The virtual meeting is scheduled for Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. through Zoom. A link to the town hall discussion on the landfill is on the borough website at www.pennington.org.

Feedback is going to be critical with creating a request for proposals (RFP), a solicitation for services, for the landfill, officials said. The landfill is about 8.5 acres and on the north side of West Delaware Avenue and south side of Broemel Place.

Other areas being looked at by the Redevelopment Committee outside of the borough landfill are the Blackwell properties at Brookside and North Main Street, the property at the corner of Route 31 and Delaware Avenue (potential affordable housing), and 10 North Main St. (potential affordable housing redevelopment).

The borough established the Redevelopment Committee in August. The committee consists of two council members, two planning board members, Borough Administrator Gian-Paolo Caminiti, Davy, and Borough Planner Jim Kyle.

Redevelopment Committee members will only address items or matters that Pennington Council or the mayor request. As a body, they are not allowed to address any matter on their own without a specific request that is given to them by the council or mayor.

They will have scope in and advisory capacity that expands to and includes investigations, approval of redevelopment designations, redevelopment plans, and redevelopment agreements, proposed tax abatements, and financial agreements.

Public input is being encouraged by officials in next week’s meeting. Pennington had designated the Pennington landfill and the Blackwell properties as areas in need of redevelopment. The Route 31 property is also being investigated as a potential area in need of redevelopment.
