Ryan was appointed to fill out an unexpired term in October 2019, and was elected to his first full four-year term in November 2019. He was re-elected to a second four-year term in 2023. His current term expires on Dec. 31, 2027.

Ryan served in the ceremonial role of Lawrence Township mayor in 2022 and 2023.

Sypek said the Lawrence Township Democratic Committee has 15 days from the date of Ryan’s resignation to nominate three candidates to fill out his term. The names of the three nominees will be presented to the Lawrence Township Council, which has to choose a replacement by May 15.
